ECONOMIC IMPACT:

The Fort Kent International Muskie Derby does create a significant economic impact to the region. It is indeed justifiable to say that by taking into account only direct spending on goods and services by organizations, participants and visitors directly associated with the derby, this event generates enormous economic benefit.

Taking into account the multiplier effect, the acceleration and long term impact that other events such as the Can-Am Dog Sled Race and the World Cup Biathlon events have had on the communities, we will work towards achieving similar economic benefits in years to come.

FORT KENT OFFICE OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT:

In the short time that the International Muskie Derby has been in existence, The Town of Fort Kent and the surrounding communities have realized an increase in economic activity during a traditionally slow season for the region. As the derby continues to grow, this impact will be much greater and far reaching.

Just as important, the derby allows new visitors and their families to experience events and activities that may be different from their home communities. To the Town of Fort Kent the derby is more than a fishing trip. It is an opportunity for local and visiting families to enjoy all the area has to offer.
