BACKGROUND:

The Fort Kent International Muskie Derby began out of the initiative of several community members in 2004. The 1st annual derby was held in the throes of one of the worst seasons of inclement weather the area had ever experienced, in fact the St. John River was in flood stage. Despite this a turn out of 81 participants joined in a weekend of great fishing and fun.

In 2005 The Fort Kent International Muskie Derby committee grew with the acknowledgement of the success and economic impact. The event again was a great success. The number of participant grew by 200% and the word was out. Many medias throughout the state attended and the derby was widely publicized throughout New England as well as Canada.

Our mission for 2006 is to increase the Fort Kent International Muskie Derby purse, exposure and participation thus insuring continued economic and tourisms impact to our communities.
